Dr. Myechia Minter-Jordan Named Newest Member of Blue Shield of California’s Board of Directors

Her passion for community health aligns with the heart of the nonprofit's mission

President and CEO of the DentaQuest Partnership for Oral Health Advancement Myechia Minter-Jordan, MD, MBA recently became the newest member of Blue Shield of California’s Board of Directors.

Blue Shield of California is a nonprofit health plan known for leading in workplace diversity and gender equity. Among its many accomplishments, the health plan achieved pay equity for its employees across gender and ethnicity in 2018 and has a balanced representation of women and men in leadership roles.

Dr. Minter-Jordan joins the board as its thirteenth member, and the seventh woman, making it the first time in the organization’s 82-year history that the board has a female majority. In her role as president and CEO of the DentaQuest Partnership for Oral Health Advancement, Dr. Minter-Jordan works to drive health care systems change to improve the oral health of all.

“In order to drive meaningful and systematic change, we have to start with our local communities,” Dr. Minter-Jordan said. “We place an enormous value on partnering with local stakeholders at the DentaQuest Partnership, and Blue Shield of California shares in that belief. I’m honored to join this board of directors and am excited about working together to transform American health care.”

Recent work conducted by Dr. Minter-Jordan and her team at the DentaQuest Partnership includes:

Releasing important research on the role oral health can play in promoting the overall health of patients during the pandemic;

Promoting the essential role dentists can play in administering COVID-19 vaccines;

Ensuring students continue to receive vital oral health care during the pandemic;

Helping dentists return to providing preventive care safely; and

Bringing major stakeholders together to transform the oral health system in a way that is more effective and equitable.

Dr. Minter-Jordan was recently named one of Boston Business Journal’s 2020 Women Who Mean Business for her leadership in the community and dedication to industry innovation.

She joined the DentaQuest Partnership in 2019 after 12 years at the Roxbury, Mass.-based Dimock Center. Prior to Dimock, Dr. Minter-Jordan worked for Johns Hopkins Medicine as an attending physician and instructor of medicine. She has an MD from Brown University School of Medicine and an MBA from the Johns Hopkins University Carey School of Business and received honorary doctorates from Northeastern University and Newbury College.
