West Virginia Health Right is a primary and specialty medical, dental, vision, behavioral health, pharmaceutical, and health education services provider in Charleston, WV. In FY2015, the organization served more than 18,000 patients through the service of 400 volunteer providers and community members. WV Health Right's adult dental clinic is the only full-time, free dental clinic in the state. Oral conditions disproportionately affect persons with low income, racial and ethnic minorities, and those who have limited or no access to dental insurance. As a result, WV Health Right opened its dental clinic in 2001 and has primarily relied on donated used equipment from dentists as well as grants to obtain necessary equipment to provide quality care and treatment for low-income, at-risk patients. Because of the large numbers of patients who present in the dental clinic with severe plaque and tartar build-up at the gum line, the clinic's Cavitrons wear out very quickly. The clinic has a pressing need for a new Cavitron Prophylaxis system as well as a Cavitron Plus Package which will allow two dentists and two hygienists to work simultaneously, thus reducing the current wait time of 8-10 weeks for a cleaning. Additionally, two of the four laptops used in the dental clinic need to be replaced in order to accommodate the interface requirements between the Dentrix electronic medical records and the Athena medical records system.
