This investment supports the Pediatric Dentistry program of the Franciscan Hospital for Children provide access to oral health care services for children with special health needs (complex medical and behavioral disorders, seizure disorders, heart disease, and diabetes, etc.) in the city of Boston and surrounding areas. The Pediatric Dentistry Program is seeking to replace dental equipment necessary for its mission to provide services to these populations. In 2013, the Pediatric Dentistry clinic had 7,447 visits in the city of Boston where 20% of working families with children are low income and 15% of children under 18 live in extreme poverty. $25,084 will support the hospital to purchase two dental chairs and lighting equipment, replacing existing equipment that is outdated and losing some of its functionalities. Grant funds provided through the Community Response Fund to improve access to care for an underserved population with special health needs.
