Kinds in Need of Dentistry (KIND) is a Colorado-based organization that provides oral health treatment and education in school-based and mobile oral health programs for 6,000 children.

KIND is specifically requesting funding for its KIND Cares initiative which would include three key activities:

Facilitating a “Family Partner” program to directly solicit feedback around oral health needs for communities in Colorado. Family Partners are groups of patients and community members representing communities of color and folks who have disparate access to services, who will lend their voices and experiences to help KIND design services that prioritize client-centered experiences and need over systematic requirements.

Secondly, KIND will utilize Bilingual Community Dental Health Coordinators, or Promotores, to offer family education around a myriad of health services, including oral health.

Lastly, KIND intends to connect families with teledentistry to assist in the expansion of care for rural populations in Colorado. This portion of the work builds on a local funding relationship to develop the equipment CariVu: a small, handheld device that detects decay using infrared technology and an intraoral camera.

The budget for this proposal represents $5,000 for staff time, including clinical staff time, as well as $5,000 for operating support for marketing. This request represents less than 1% of the organization’s overall budget.

For CareQuest Institute, this small funding request represents an opportunity to strengthen the growing grantee network in Colorado, as well as increase access to teledentistry for school-age children.
