Oral Health Ohio (OHO) is a state oral health coalition that focuses on better policies, more access to oral health care, and a renewed perspective of how oral health affects overall health the community’s prosperity. CareQuest Institute funded Oral Health Ohio in 2019 but did not in 2020. This year, OHO is in the planning phase with the Health Improvement Team to launch the MORE Care Initiative in 2022.

This work builds on Oral Health Ohio’s past work which resulted in Ohio designing and implementing a new, two-year State Oral Health Plan, between 2020 – 2022.

For the purposes of this grant, OHO wants to focus on three key areas:

In partnership with CareQuest Institute Health Improvement Team, test value-based payment in oral health through the implementation of MORE Care

Leading the design of the next State Oral Health Plan and leveraging the process to influence the State Health Improvement Planning process to ensure oral health is comprehensively woven in.

Expanding the support and implementation of school-based health and oral health services as a tool for achieving health equity.

An additional key part of this proposal is to build new local oral health coalitions in disparate parts of the state and work more deeply with historically marginalized and/or low wealth communities. OHO will support these new coalitions in leading a local health assessment and policy agenda setting processes, as well as connecting these community partners to the above-mentioned activities.

The budget for this proposal is $120,000, which includes $50,000 for subgrants to the two local oral health coalitions and $65k for a contract facilitator for the state oral health planning process. This proposal amount represents 75% of the organizations overall budget.
