Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana (Second Harvest) is the largest food bank and leading anti-hunger network in Louisiana, with locations across the state. They work in partnership with hundreds of local organizations including food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, churches, schools, community centers, and more, in order to provide food and nutrition services. Second Harvest provides not only immediate relief after a disaster, but they continue to provide food assistance in the impacted communities for months and years following a disaster.

This investment, through the Emergent and Relief Fund, is to support Second Harvest’s relief work in response to Hurricane Ida and other recent storms that have hit Louisiana. This is one of the strongest storms to hit the area, and it has damaged several communities in their service area. Second Harvest has been distributing food, clean water, and supplies reach the residents of impacted areas. As of this September 15, 2021, they have distributed 3 million pounds of food, water, and supplies since the landfall impact of Hurricane Ida and they are producing thousands of hot, cold, and shelf stable prepared meals daily in their Community Kitchen. They expect to provide millions more meals to impacted communities over the next several months, and ensure that supplies are being distributed as well, and work with their local partners for distribution help. This grant of $25,000 would support the purchase of food and distribution costs to those in need.
