Positioning CAN as a Community Health Resource for Food Assistance
Grantee Address

Culture Aid NOLA
1526 Mandeville St.
New Orleans, LA
United States

Culture Aid NOLA is a local organization in New Orleans that organizes twice-weekly distributions of free, fresh food open to all community members. They are committed to no-barrier, no stigma aid and do not turn anyone away.

This investment, through the Emergent and Relief Fund, supports the food distribution program at Culture Aid NOLA. The organization was created in March 2020 at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, and has been growing to serve the community ever since. With their response to Hurricane Ida and other storms, they have seen an increased need for food bank services. They work with other local organizations including churches and community centers to deliver fresh food to impacted communities. They also work with Second Harvest Food Bank as a partner to coordinate logistics of distributing food. Culture Aid NOLA is hoping to expand their services to be able to provide more delivery programs on top of their food distribution locations, to meet the needs of those affected by the hurricane. Another key part of their work is in community support networks and mutual aid. Culture Aid NOLA is involved in several mutual aid networks to support communities without depriving them of any leadership or decision-making power. This budget of $25,000 would go towards food costs, non-food supplies, and distribution costs.
