Neighborhood Services Organization is a nonprofit organization that serves homeless and at-risk individuals in Oklahoma City. The organization offers housing services, women and children’s programs, and a low-cost dental clinic. The dental clinic employs dental providers and works in partnership with the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry to train fourth year dental students as well. The organization serves largely BIPOC communities with the patient population being 23% Latinx, 17% African American, and 9% American Indian. The organization also partners with Oklahoma City Indian Clinic and accepts vouchers from native American tribes to provide dental services. The State Department of Health has named dental disease one of the most prevalent health problems in Oklahoma in 2021, which demonstrates the need for access to oral health care and quality of services. Neighborhood Services Organization is one of the few low or no-cost dental clinics in the area.

This grant, through the Emergent and Relief Fund, will enable Neighborhood Services Organization to purchase necessary replacement equipment for the dental clinic. This includes replacing old tubing that is cracking and four curing lights that are inconsistent and no longer able to charge properly. In terms of the budget, approximately $1,800 will go towards the tubing for 5 operatories, and $4,800 will go toward the curing lights. These are necessary tools and equipment that the organization relies on to see patients, and they need funds to replace them to continue to see patients without raising prices. During the project period, NSO expects to serve 1,500 patients and provide 11,000 procedures. Of this, at least 35% of patients will be new patients, and at least 50% will return for repeat care. The full budget will go towards the replacement equipment costs.
