Course Description

Value-based care (VBC) is a model of care focused on improving health outcomes and the patient experience while lowering costs and reducing disparities compared to the traditional fee-for-service model.

This introductory course will explore the need for transitioning to VBC in oral health and the factors driving this change. We will also examine the limitations of the traditional fee-for-service payment system commonly used in US oral health care. Finally, we’ll share examples of the better outcomes and lower costs achievable through alternative payment models, using the Health Care Payment Learning and Action Network (HCP-LAN) Alternative Payment Model framework to explore their connection to improved health outcomes and cost efficiency.
