During Native American Heritage month, join CareQuest Institute and the Society of American Indian Dentists for a webinar that will explore the intersection of tribal sovereignty, culture, and oral health.
Honoring the legacy of Dr. George Blue Spruce, the first Native American dentist, our expert panelists will share personal stories and experiences that have shaped their journey in oral health, highlighting the responsibilities and opportunities of providing care in American Indian and Alaska Native communities. They’ll then share the unique barriers individuals in these communities face, and offer ideas on how learners can support critical oral health access and provide equitable, culturally grounded care.
Learning Objectives
- Discuss the history of oral health for American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) communities and its influence.
- Describe the personal journeys of AI/AN dental professionals and how community identity shaped those journeys.
- Explain the inherent sovereignty of tribal nations and how sovereignty, reservations, and community structures influence health systems and oral health care.
- Identify culturally responsive and trauma-informed approaches to patient communication and care that honor AI/AN traditions and community priorities.
