Members of the LGBTQ+ communities often face barriers to oral health care, including discrimination and bias in clinical settings. These poor experiences can lead to avoidance of care and mistrust of providers, ultimately affecting both oral and overall health.
Join CareQuest Institute, in partnership with Community Catalyst, for a webinar that will explore some of the barriers LGBTQ+ patients face when accessing care — and how oral health providers can help address those barriers. The expert speakers will share how systemic issues, including policy changes, affect care delivery and access. They will also share practical strategies and tools to help oral health professionals uphold their ethical and professional responsibility to create safe, inclusive, and person-centered environments for patients of all identities and orientations.
Learning Objectives:
- Define key terms related to gender identity, sexual orientation, and gender-affirming care.
- Identify oral health disparities — and related contributing social and systemic factors — that affect LGBTQ+ patients.
- Evaluate strategies to create inclusive and affirming environments for all patients, regardless of identity and orientation.
