CareQuest Institute Requests Grant Proposals Focused on Disability Inclusion and Justice in Oral Health

CareQuest Institute for Oral Health®, a leading national nonprofit focused on creating a more accessible, equitable, and integrated oral health system, has launched a request for proposals (RFP) to fund projects and partner with organizations that are working to address systemic barriers to oral health for people with disabilities. Proposals can be submitted now through August 31.

WESH 2 News: Florida Worst in U.S. For Children's Dental Care, Report Shows

The new information doesn't look good for Florida. A newly released report shows children ages 14 and younger are using hospital emergency rooms to treat non-traumatic dental care. The study by CareQuest Institute for Oral Health says Florida is the worst in the country for children.

Yahoo News: More Florida Children Get Treated in ERs For Tooth Pain Than Anywhere Else in US

July 20, 2023

More than 17,600 children visited Florida’s Emergency Rooms for non-traumatic dental conditions and and additional 3,500 children and adults had to be admitted for life-threatening infections, according to 2021 federal hospital care data compiled by CareQuest Institute, a national nonprofit.

Children’s Use of Emergency Departments for Non-Traumatic Dental Conditions

Spotlight on Florida

Previous reports from CareQuest Institute have analyzed why and how frequently adults visit an emergency department (ED) for dental conditions that could be best treated in a dental setting. This report is the first to explore children’s use of EDs for non-traumatic dental conditions (NTDCs), finding that Florida had the highest rate of ED visits for children and the highest average charge for these visits, compared to all other states for which data is available.
