Discrimination and Dignity Experiences in Prior Oral Care Visits Predict Racialized Oral Health Inequities Among Nationally Representative US Adults

Individuals who experience discrimination or microaggressions within oral care settings have worse oral health outcomes and are less likely to plan a preventive oral care visit in the future, according to an article in the Journal of Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities. The insights are based on findings from the CareQuest Institute State of Oral Health Equity in America survey, the largest nationally representative annual survey focused on adults’ knowledge, attitudes, experiences, and behaviors related to oral health.

Spectrum News 13: Oral Health Disparities Impact Latinos at Larger Rates

"In a study analyzing oral health disparities among Latino residents in the United States, the CareQuest Institute for Oral Health found Latino communities to be more vulnerable when obtaining proper dental services. The study’s findings have raised major concerns among Latino doctors who argue the gaps in accessing oral health care for Hispanics can be diminished by diversifying the medical field."

Hunger Pains: How Food Insecurity Affects Oral Health

Nearly 24 million adults in the US — approximately 9% of the adult population — experience food insecurity, according to CareQuest Institute’s 2023 State of Oral Health Equity in America survey. Survey results reveal that food insecurity is linked to poorer oral health outcomes.

Des Moines Register: Afghan Refugees Needed Dental Care; Iowans Made It Happen

October 10, 2023

"Thanks to funding and partnership with CareQuest Institute for Oral Health, Delta Dental of Iowa Foundation, along with BMC and Dental Connections, we were able to offer this pilot project to assist Afghan refugees in establishing a dental home and to receive emergency dental care within their initial 90 days of resettlement."
